Nieves, from Allentown, Pennsylvania, had adopted Kovu from the Lehigh County Humane Society’s (LCHS) when he just a puppy. Sadly, The Morning Call reported that he escaped the backyard when a car ran into the fence.

Nieves searched for her beloved dog but came back empty-handed. Even worse, according to

Years passed, and Aisha decided she was finally ready to get another dog for her two sons. She went to the LCHS’s website and was browsing the adoptable dogs when one caught her eye. The tan rottweiler pitbull mixe looked just like Kovu.

After examining the photo closer, she realized, without a doubt, that it was her dog! Speaking with The Morning Call, she said, “I thought, ‘Wait, that can’t be him.’ Then, I saw the little scar over one eye, the scar from when he got caught in a gate, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, that’s my baby, that’s Kovu!'”

She immediately called the shelter and told them she was coming for her dog.

Apparently, LCHS had found Kovu in pretty bad condition, with missing hair, bad inflammation, and fleas. After he received treatment, he was adopted by a family back in October of 2019. However, he was recently returned to the shelter when his new family didn’t want him any longer.

It worked out because with his adoptive family surrendering him to the shelter, Nieves was able to adopt him as her own and get him back home where he belonged.

As you can imagine, their union was quite emotional. Check it out in the video below:
