Rescue Dog Adopts Three Kittens After Losing Her Puppies Prematurely

We sometimes hear that there is no love like the love of a mother, and this is true, regardless of whether we are talking about a human or a dog.

If you have any doubts in your mind as to the power of that loving tendency, those doubts are about to be wiped clean when you hear this heartwarming story.

In Phoenix, there is a dog rescue known as the Sunshine Dog Rescue. One of the dogs under their care, Georgia, is an Australian Shepherd mix that they found near the US-Mexico border living in a gas station.

It wasn’t long after finding Georgia that they learned she was pregnant. Unfortunately, the puppies weren’t able to survive because they were born prematurely. According to the founder of Sunshine Dog Rescue, Anita Osa, Georgia could hardly stand it when the puppies were lost.

“I’ve never had a mom dog lose a whole litter before. The best way I could describe it was she was frantic. It was so sad, she was looking for those babies. She tore up the toddler mattress we had her on, trying to find her babies,” said Osa in a video interview with World News Now.

They were hoping that Georgia would be able to heal so a call went out on Facebook to find animals that would need a mother dog that was lactating. They weren’t able to find any puppies but they did find some orphaned kittens who needed a mother.

At first, Osa was wondering if the dog would accept the kittens as her own but almost instantly a bond was formed.

“I introduced them to her gently. I first bought one out and let her sniff it, and she seemed to accept it, so I brought the others out. It’s amazing to see how she instantly calmed down,” said Osa.

“I think for the kittens, they have no idea that Georgia is a dog,” she added.

Amazingly, the new kittens are even nursing directly on the mother, even though she has low milk production. Osa says that she protects the kittens as if they were her own.
