Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) rescue team and animal control officers arrived just in time to rescue over 30 cats and kittens from squalor conditions inside an RV with temperatures over 100 degrees.
PACC said they received multiple calls from concerned citizens about the possible cat hoarder. The rescue team arrived at the RV that was surrounded by trash and found 30 cats and kittens inside covered in feces and urine. On top of the uninhabitable conditions, the temperature inside the RV was 101 degrees.

All of the cats were in heat distress and rescuers say, “were open mouth breathing and panting.” They were gently placed in crates and brought to PACC to be examined and treated.
One kitten was found dead in a crate and all the remaining cats have upper respiratory issues. “We are going to be working to save these cats’ lives over the next couple of days,” said Kristen Hassen, the Director of Animal Services. “They are in serious condition and they’re heading straight into our emergency medical clinic for treatment.”

After examining the cats, the staff discovered that nearly all of them have ringworm. They are taking all the necessary precautions to make sure it doesn’t spread to other shelter pets of staff. They are currently looking for foster homes or adopters to take in some of the ringworm kittens to help them recover faster.
PACC wrote, “These kittens undergo a lengthy treatment in the shelter. They typically heal much faster in a home environment where they get extra special attention. Ringworm kitties end up being some of the best around!”
Each cat will be nursed back to health and eventually be put up for adoption. While the staff are busy caring for all the newcomers, they remind people that there are over 200 pets in their shelter ready for forever homes now.
