In August 2017, an abandoned lab mix was found tied to a railroad post outside of a Georgia shelter. Fortunately, a local volunteer couldn’t stand the idea of letting this young dog, whom rescuers would come to call Moose, languish in a shelter, where each passing day brings increased risk of euthanasia. Thankfully, this woman’s kindly interventions resulted in Moose’s transfer to Eleventh Hour Rescue, a no-kill animal sanctuary based in New Jersey.
In New Jersey, Moose quickly charmed volunteer staff with his “happy personality” and zest for life. “We were all rooting for Moose to find his perfect home,” they recalled on Facebook. “And then one day, his “dad” discovered him and they fell in love.”
Suddenly, Moose’s future was looking bright. And then, just like that, tragedy struck when Moose’s new owner suddenly passed away. The loyal dog didn’t understand what had happened, or that he was once again homeless. Instead, he just continued to stand watch over his beloved Dad’s empty hospital bed.
Fortunately, the dog went back to Eleventh Hour Rescue, which was committed to helping Moose find his next home. “No matter how crowded we are, we always make room for one of our own,” the group wrote. “One of our mottoes is once an Eleventh Hour dog, always an Eleventh Hour dog.”
Fortunately, this heartwarming scene started trending on Facebook, resulting in several queries regarding the loyal lab’s adoptive status before finally going viral. “MOOSE HAS BEEN ADOPTED by a wonderful family who will care for and love him for the rest of his life!” grateful volunteers wrote. “Thank you again to everyone who shared his story!”
